Diego Toledo and Axel Arano have developed a site-specific construction for the SAPS’ El Cubo. Based upon the architechtonic schematic representation and by using only lines to suggest volumes, Se Traspasa proposes the transparency of the structure as a way to achieve the integration, and at the same time, make visible, each one of the spaces that this construction comprises.
The constructive strategy of Se Traspasa, as well as the placing of one architectonic space inside another, raises a question upon the function of these spaces. At the same time, the (in)-visibility of the structure ignites a confusion on the viewers’ perception of the work and of the space where it is placed, thus provoking and ambiguous relationship between the object, its function and its appearance.
Axel Arano (Mexico City, 1964) received his degree as an architect from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM). He has collaborated with several firms, among them TEN of Enrique Norten and TAX of Alberto Kalach. He collaborates with specialized magazines and has been twice recipient of the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes grant in the Architectural Design specialty.
Diego Toledo (Mexico City, 1964) received his degree as an artist in 1987 by the UNAM. Co-founder of La Quinonera independent artistic space in 1988. His work has been exhibited in private galleries and museums since 1992. Among other prizes, he recently won the VI Bienal de Monterrey/FEMSA in the sculpture category. He is currently recipient of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores grant.

As a way to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Siqueiros’ death, the SAPS presents Siqueiros Sonico. This show relays on Siqueiros’ personae as a great speaker, a characteristic that allowed him to develop his artistic career and, at the same time, to be engaged with important political and social movements of the past century. Through the research, the selection and the edition of the audio material kept by the SAPS, Juan Manuel Struck and Pablo Rojas present to the public the first approach to this important archive that has already been fully rescued.
Siqueiros Sonico underlines the SAPS’ vocation to keep updated the legacy of the muralist through its connection to the contemporary art practice, aesthetics and thought. This show will not only be present at the SAPS but will go beyond its space to intervene the mass-media such as radio and TV. This intervention will allow a bigger audience for the exhibition while making use of the idea of Public Art , which was of great importance for the Maestro’s work and theory.
Siqueiros Sonico was enhaced through the collaboration of: Arturo Ortiz, in charge of the exhibition space design, Pablo Lach from MCO Studios as sound engineer and artist Gabriel Acevedo Pomar who will present a series of videos that interrelate to the muralist’s voice.
The SAPS appreciates the invaluable support of SAMSUNG Electronics and TV UNAM to make possible the presentation of this exhibition.
