For the Bunker Museum of Contemporary Art- 18 Solo Exhibitions (BMoCA) Taiwanese and Chinese artists-painters, filmmakers, architects & composers-transform cold war-era defenses to promote the future of Kinmen Island, the former Taiwanese military stronghold in the ongoing cross-Strait conflict. Curated by Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang, BmoCA’s site-specific installations, produced amidst minefields and inflamed relations between Taiwan and mainland China, are a gesture of regional collaboration, a gift to the people of Kinmen and, as the island looks towards the future, one proposal for the preservation of Kinmen’s unique martial history as well as its reinvention.
