To celebrate London’s role as a leader in the international art market, Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Bonhams, the UK’s leading auction houses, have joined forces with more than 70 major commercial galleries and institutions including Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the National Gallery, The Royal Academy and the British Museum, to present a two-week program of museum and cultural events, gallery exhibitions, lectures, special auctions and parties.
Opening on June 21, the day Art Basel closes and the first day of London auction week, Art Fortnight London will showcase the breadth and quality of art that is presented, created and sold in this art capital – from Old Masters to some of the world’s most cutting edge contemporary work.
A wide range of specially developed events have been organized, from behind-the-scenes tours of places that are not usually accessible of the public (such as the British Government Art Collection), to late night dinners and tours of the Soane Museum and the National Gallery. Other activities include the first opportunity ever to view the Frank Cohen collection of contemporary art in London, an exhibition of Rembrandt etchings from the Neil Kaplan collection, several new public lecture series including The Art Newspaper Debate at The Royal Academy, and a set of book launches, including one for artists Gilbert & George.
Publication:
The Art Book, a resource guide to London’s art scene, will be distributed through participating venues and sponsors before and during the events.
Sponsors:
Art Fortnight London is generously supported by Bloomberg, EFG Private Bank, Farrer & Co. and RK Harrison Insurance Brokers Ltd.
