StageXplorer: an “open workshop” for exploring future forms of expression in music theatre
As the experimental part of the international “Ring Award”, “stageXplorer” offers candidates an opportunity to present their very individual readings of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” to a jury of renowned experts, chaired by Peter Weibel. Each stageXplorer team consists of a stage director and designer and, optionally, concept artists from various artistic fields.
The collaboration of artists working for the theatre with those from other arts opens up new perspectives on Mozart, with the aim of developing innovative forms of music theatre which make use of most diverse means of expression from various fields and establish integrative artistic meaning by fusing disparate artistic approaches.
It is planned to document the genesis and development of the stageXplorer projects submitted for the competition, from their first conception up to the semifinals and finals, for the benefit of an interested public and of the competing teams. The stageXplorer teams are – optionally – invited to participate in this documentation and thus make transparent the production methods they use and the steps they take to develop their project.
Two of the stageXplorer projects are selected by the jury to enter the semifinals and are presented to the jury at a public event. One of these two projects will be fully realized at the finals.
The semifinals and the finals are performances open to the public:
Semifinals: 30 January 2005, “Montagehalle”, Graz Opera House
Finals: 24 – 26 June 2005, “Dom im Berg”, Graz
