SVA’s Artist Residency Programs is pleased to present a selection of free upcoming virtual programming and online events open to the general public. 

Visible Futures Lab tour & artist talk with Markus Haala 
Join Artist Residency Program Coordinator, Rachel Cohen on a virtual tour of SVA’s Visible Futures Lab. The Visible Futures Lab is a space for learning, prototyping, and art-making open to SVA Artist Residency Program participants. Cross-pollination is expected and encouraged here, with projects in fields such as interaction design & fine art developing side by side. The tour will feature Visible Futures Lab Director Chester Dols and an Artist talk by 2021 Artist Residency Alumnus Markus Haala.

The Artist Residency Project virtual open studios 
We invite you to a virtual open studios event featuring work from the current participants of The Artist Residency Project, a fully online residency program hosted through the School of Visual Arts. Artists will be joining us from around the world and sharing their studios as well as works created during their time in the residency program. Viewers are welcome to ask questions and participate in an open dialogue with the artists. 

Featured artists include Neslihan Baser, Morgen Christie, C Fodoreanu, Destiny Green, Massiel Martinez, Grace Morenko, Trevor Nathan, Rebecaa Odessa, Barbarita Polster, Yali Romagoza, Shannon Schmidt, Guy Schreiber, Ko Smith, Sato Sugamoto, Natsuki Takauji, Weiting Wei, David Wong, and Brigitta Zhao.

SVA Summer Illustration Residency presents: Catching up with Eugenia Mello 
Illustration powerhouse (and Residency alumnus) Eugenia Mello will discuss process, projects, and the pursuit of color with Viktor Koen, chair, BFA Illustration/BFA Cartooning. Q&A to follow.

Eugenia Mello is an illustrator and graphic designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, currently living and drawing in NYC. She studied graphic design at the University of Buenos Aires, where she also taught design and typography courses. She holds an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from the School of Visual Arts. Her work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, The Art Directors Club of New York, Latin American Illustration, The Society of Illustrators of LA, Creative Quarterly, and 3x3 Magazine. In 2017, she was awarded a Gold medal from the Society of Illustrators for her illustrated moving piece Hope for the Day and in 2019 she received a Silver medal for Why Are We Still Dismissing Girl’s Pain? an OP-ED illustration for the New York Times. In 2020, her recently published first picture book Moving was awarded a Silver Cube by The Art Directors Club of New York.
