Now in its 16th year, Art Frankfurt, the top market platform for contemporary art in Europe, will again attract many art enthusiasts and collectors to the metropolis on the River Main. From May 7 – 10, 2004, the trade fair for young art will take place in the prestigious Hall 1, directly beneath the Frankfurt Messeturm tower. Art Frankfurt welcomes both trade visitors and the general public, and offers a unique overview of the latest trends in the art market. 165 galleries from twelve countries will participate in the event, featuring works from more than 2,000 artists.

The Exhibition Areas
Modern stands for artistic positions of the recent past (from 1960 onwards) and their development and contemporary interpretation in a present day setting. Many of the artists shown here have already achieved a degree of commercial success while their ‘big break’ has yet to come. For collectors, this is the perfect opportunity to get in at ground floor level and buy before any sharp price increases take effect.
Avantgarde is all about the here and now. A wide range of creative directions that have been pushing the boundaries of artistic expression since the mid 1990s are presented for critical discussion. Alongside artists who have already contributed significantly to the world of international exhibitions, members of the newest generation of artists are featured heavily – and are ripe for discovery!
Edition is a treasure trove of multiples, artists’ books, photo and video editions. Well-loved classics and current new releases will delight the hearts of connoisseurs and newcomers in equal measure.
Fair exhibitors will also give special presentations to complement the three exhibition areas, making Art Frankfurt one of the top spots for contemporary art in Europe:
One Artist Shows are more extensive profiles of individual artists and their work, giving the audience the opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of the creative expression of specific artists.
Projects is a dedicated area for large-scale, spatial or contextual installations and media presentations.
New & Upcoming introduces artists with no previous exposure to national and international art fairs who have made only cursory appearances or been part of isolated group showings at international exhibitions.
