NYU Grey Art Gallery director Lynn Gumpert will be on hand for
the gallery’s “First Wednesday Salons,” informal
gatherings held from 6 to 8 pm on the first Wednesday of each month that the gallery is open to the public. Joining her on February 5 is Debra Bricker Balken, Guest Curator of the Grey’s current exhibition, “The Park Avenue Cubists”—who will present a gallery talk beginning at 6:15 pm. The first major museum show devoted entirely to the work of A.E. Gallatin, George L.K. Morris, Suzy Frelinghuysen, and Charles G. Shaw, “The Park Avenue Cubists” features some 50 paintings and explores the four artists’ commitment to perpetuating the European origins of modernism while formulating one of the first abstract languages of art in the United States. Please join us for a First Wednesday Salon on February 5 or March 5. “The Park Avenue Cubists” remains on view through March 29, 2003.
