Art Miami 2003
9 January – 13 January 2003
ART MIAMI 2003 TO FEATURE 150 GALLERIES FROM 32 COUNTRIES
One of Miami’s most important cultural events, Art Miami 2003
returns to
the Miami Beach Convention Center, Thursday, January 9 – Monday,
January
13, 2003. Organizers are gearing up for more than 150 galleries from 32
countries spanning six continents, including a cutting-edge contingency
“Currents 03: New Perspectives” in the 13th annual edition
of the
exposition. This year, the international survey of modern and
contemporary art continues to broaden its scope, with more galleries
dedicated to sculptural work, ceramics and glass taking part, and a
much-expanded section devoted to cutting-edge art.
According to director Ilana Vardy, the art fair has kept apace with
Miami’s changing landscape, mirroring the city’s continued
ascendancy as
an arts Mecca by presenting the latest trends in contemporary art to the
thousands of collectors, curators and arts enthusiasts that attend each
year. “The eyes of the art world are firmly fixed on
Miami,” offered
Vardy. “More and more important artists and serious collectors
are
spending time in Miami, fueling the growth of galleries and museums.
Art
Miami provides a venue in which new, cutting-edge art, much of it from
Latin America and Spain, can find its audience alongside more
established
artists. For those seeking new art forms, in a variety of media, this
is
a place of discovery. With prices ranging from the mid-hundreds to six
figures, most attendees can afford to bring something home.”
Art Miami 2003 will kick off on Thursday, January 9, with a
by-invitation
gala opening reception and preview from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Exposition hours are noon – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,
and
noon – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, the show’s closing day. Art
Miami
is open to the public. Daily admission prices are $12.00 general
admission, $9 for students, seniors and groups; children under 12 are
admitted free.
