Flash Art is Now in Synch with Summer
Flash Art
We have changed the periodicity of the magazine for you! The Summer 2001 issue of Flash Art International – as well as future summer issueswill now be published in July rather than June. This change means that we can better provide our readers with breaking coverage of the seasons big events – including the 49th Biennale in Venice, and the Berlin Biennial – in addition to previews of fall shows.
This issue will feature special Venice reports: the lines, the parties, the prizes, the let-downs, the new discoveries, the sleepers, the mystery of the golden turtles. Plus: Jens Hoffman interviews curator of this years Arsenale exhibition, Harald Szeeman; Michele Robecchi and Massimiliano Gioni interview Albanian and French artist Anri Sala, winner of one of the special prizes for young artists–and post-Biennale rants and raves from art world insiders.
Dont miss the feature by Michael Cohen on painter Brad Kahlhamer, whose expressionistic and monumental landscapes–strewn with graffiti scawlings, rock and roll relics, and cartoon indians – offer a vision of the American West as a junk yard or cultural ghost town that is part Pop, part American history, and part personal dream-scape. Also featured in this issue, Octavio Zaya on Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaards unleashing of apes in New York.
Also in this issue: interviews with Glasgow-based artist Simon Starling, Takashi Murakami, Dennis Cooper, and a conversation with Walker Art Center curator Richard Flood, who discusses the legacies and future of arte povera on the occasion of the exhibition of Zero to Infinity at the Tate Gallery in London, and a tour of new art in Ireland in Aperto Belfast. Plus – a very special fashion supplement: legendary fashion photographer Paolo Barbieri recreates for Flash Art a vintage shoot from the seventies – the clothes are classic Valentino, and the girl is vintage as well, and just as beautiful in the 21st century as she was in the last! And of course all of the usual departments you look forward to in every issue of Flash Art – the report from New York, ouveratures, spotlights, and reviews from around the world.
