Authentic/Ex-centric: Africa in and out of Africa is major exhibition to be held as part of the upcoming 49th Venice Biennale. Co-curated by Salah Hassan and Olu Oguibe, the exhibition features seven prominent contemporary African and African Diaspora artists who work within the conceptual mode, and highlights the most recent currents in contemporary African art practice through work that speaks directly to issues of representation, memory, Diaspora, exile and other aspects of the African experience. An accompanying full-length book offers a fresh look at conceptualism and post-modernism from an African standpoint, and at issues of cross-cultural and trans-national aesthetics.
