This event is held in conjunction with Aristocratic Artisans: An Interactive Journey into Italian Fashion, on view at ACE Gallery through July 4, 2000. Presenting their signature video projections and sound installations for the first time in the United States, the members of Studio Azzurro, the celebrated Milan-based artistic collective, have created, in collaboration with Anna Piaggi, Creative Consultant for Vogue Italia, a series of highly interactive video installations. Like illustrated chapters taken from a history of the sources and qualities of Italian fashion, Studio Azzurro presents a series of interactive installations designed to articulate that story through an orchestration of sounds, colors, projected images, scents, materials and cultural references. This marriage of mediums, specially developed to function as interactive elements, links deep historical roots to modern innovation. With the tap of a finger or the direction of a breath, invisible switches throughout the galleries respond by releasing a changing vocabulary of images and sounds. Together, they embody the alchemy of the designer and artisan, bringing style and form to such simple and luxurious elements as silk, linen, wool, and leather, each material appearing within the context of the exhibition’s principal themes. A sensation at Milan’s February runway collections, Studio Azzurro has exhibited at Palazzo Fortuny, Venice, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome, in major art in events in Berlin, Paris and Tokyo. The exhibition has been organized by the Italian Trade Commission.
Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Admission
