ArkDes, the Swedish National Centre for Architecture and Design, is now accepting applications for a curator of 20th-century architecture to join its curatorial team in Stockholm.
As part of a major reorganisation of the museum and the definition of a new collections gallery, the role will be intimately tied to the museum’s extensive collection of objects related to Swedish architecture between 1850 and today. This collection contains the works of hundreds of Sweden’s greatest architects and comprises one of the most important histories of modern architecture—a unique piece of cultural heritage that has, for the most part, not been on public display.
The role presents a unique opportunity for an innovative and energetic curator to make research, exhibitions, events and publications that will deepen the public understanding of how modern Sweden was imagined, designed, and built. We are seeking an extraordinary curator who can be an intellectual leader within our organisation, and an inspirational guide for the public to Sweden’s 20th-century history in architecture and design.
The successful candidate will have expertise in 20th-century architecture history, with a specific focus on Swedish or Nordic architecture. Experience working with historical objects and artifacts is preferred. The role will have the immediate task of focusing on research, narratives, and object selection for the forthcoming reconfiguration of the collections exhibition at ArkDes, opening in 2024.
Summary of responsibilities
–Managing the collection, developing knowledge on our holdings, and serving as the museum’s primary expert on architecture between 1880 and 1980
–Considering, researching, and recommending donations and acquisitions of works
–Researching and selecting material for the forthcoming collections exhibition
–Researching and organising temporary exhibitions
–Working to produce catalogues and other written materials to accompany exhibitions, and soliciting essays for publications from scholars and writers within the field
–Attending international conferences and symposia, serving as a key representative for the museum’s curatorial team
Application
The post is a full-time, permanent position in Stockholm, Sweden, with a competitive salary. A complete role description and information on how to apply is available at ArkDes’s website.
The deadline for applications is March 15, 2022.
