May 9–15, 2022
In its inaugural edition, the Architekturwoche Basel (AWB) from May 9–15, 2022, under artistic direction of Chrissie Muhr, is dedicated to the theme of “Reale Räume” (Real Spaces)—examining how globalisation, digitalisation, migration, climate change and the pandemic affect the urban spaces around us. The focus is on the “Reale Räume” (Real Spaces) of three current development sites in Basel: Dreispitz (Münchenstein), Bachgraben (Allschwil) and Klybeck (Basel).
With three formats of its own—Forum, Basel Pavillon and Trouvailles—as well as Open Office and over 100 partner events staged by local institutions and organizations, the programme of events is aimed at both experts and the general public.
While the Forum offers the opportunity to discover these areas and exchange views on the urban transformation process with various events such as tours and panel discussions, the architecture of the first Basel Pavillon demonstrates new possibilities for climate-friendly construction and the circular economy. The Trouvailles format focuses on the role and responsibility of architects in the development of public space. Under the title “Cyclical Tales—Zyklische Erzählungen,” the architects Truwant + Rodet + together with Melissa Freudiger will implement interventions at several locations in the city during the AWB that visualize the city’s relationship to water and its tributaries in the urban sphere—ecosystems, historical layers and potential open and free spaces for the future.
The Open Office event provides insights into the design and production of architecture. As part of Architekturwoche Basel, numerous architecture, engineering and planning offices in the city and region will be opening their doors to the public on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and sharing a first-hand glimpse of their work. Furthermore, the AWB programme includes more than 100 partner events.
More information on the Architekturwoche Basel and reservations for the site tours and panels is available here. Participation in the Forum events is free of charge.
