Bozar, a major international centre for the arts located in the heart of Brussels, is seeking to appoint a Director of Exhibitions to succeed Sophie Lauwers, who became Chief Executive Officer of Bozar in November 2021.
Bozar, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, presents a constantly changing, distinctive and ambitious programme of exhibitions, music, film, contemporary dance, theatre, talks and events. Since its inception Bozar has been a catalyst for change and progress. Its mission today is to further develop its reputation and deliver an exciting local, national and international identity firmly anchored in the 21st century, ensuring Bozar remains an inclusive, hospitable and cultural oasis for a broad and diverse audience.
Reporting to the CEO, the new Director of Exhibitions will be a key figure in the development of the artistic mission for Bozar, producing a high quality, innovative exhibition programme, which captures attention both at home and abroad. The candidates will be unafraid to step out of the conventional path aiming to appeal both to existing and to new audiences. They will be digitally savvy and cognisant of environmental issues relating to the role of the Museum in the 21st century.
In the new Director of Exhibitions, Bozar seeks candidates with a track record of innovation internationally in the production of an exhibition programme of quality. They will be very well networked internationally and will be comfortable talking to sponsors, foundations, and the media. They will be team leaders, supporting their staff in the delivery of great work.
The new Director of Exhibitions will have sufficient language facility in English, along with French or Dutch or be willing to follow an immersion course to meet the language requirement.
