MMK is looking for a new Head of the Collection to join its team.
A museum of the present must always be evolving. In a time of constant change and the attending sense of powerlessness, the task of the MUSEUM MMK FÜR MODERNE KUNST is to open up and occupy new spaces. Comprising more than 5000 works, MMK’s collection should enable us to look at the present from a different perspective, to experience a different sensual approach and thus to create spaces for distance and reflection.
The new Head of the Collection should have a strong expertise and experience in contemporary art, and an ambition to expand and develop the museum’s permanent collection. They cultivate external relationships with artists, institutions and collectors, while exploring new ways of experiencing the permanent collection. The Head of the Collection work closely with the Director of the museum and other curatorial staff and departments in the museum, in particular conservation, education, publications, and research resources.
Potential candidates should have curatorial experience from museums or similar institutions and the sincere wish to diversify and broaden the museum collection. An ambition should be to extend the outreach of the collection through long-term projects, including developing new ways of communication and research. Furthermore, the candidate should possess extensive knowledge of international contemporary art, art history, and theory. Familiarity and affiliation with discourses on the decolonial, feminism and inclusion are essential.
