The large-scale exhibition something new, something old, something desired is dedicated to topical themes in our present-day world: questions of understanding and communication, isolation and marginalisation, power and protest, utopia and structure. The show also takes a look at (virtual) worlds and realities as reflected in architectural designs, explores the tension between form and dissolution, and highlights the potential harboured in the interplay between material and language. As the title suggests, new light is shed on significant works from the collection in dialogue with young contemporary art, while many new acquisitions and superb gifts to the collection are presented for the first time, with desirable works integrated throughout the show. The result is an exciting showcase in which the many voices of today’s art are orchestrated around thematic clusters, paving the way for unexpected encounters.
