Ahead of that, we are currently inviting applications for the role of Festival Director, to lead the festival through the next edition.
This exciting role will be central to the ongoing consultation process that GI is currently undertaking, collaborating with the contemporary visual art community of Glasgow, stakeholders and partners to realise the ambition of Scotland’s biennial festival of contemporary visual art. Glasgow International 2021 was one of the first in-person festivals to take place in Scotland following the 2021 lockdown and provided a much-needed opportunity to reconnect audiences with world class contemporary visual art. The GI programme in June 2021 featured 70 exhibitions and events, performances and talks at over 30 spaces across the city and online, and showcased work by over 100 artists. It generated UK-wide press coverage, with multiple positive reviews.
Glasgow International is Scotland’s largest festival for contemporary art, taking place over three weeks across the city of Glasgow. Renowned as a centre for contemporary art, the festival draws on the city’s strengths as a vibrant and distinctive centre of artistic production and display. Combining the characteristics of a visual arts biennial with an open submission model for artists and curators based in the city, GI is a truly one of the most distinctive events in the European cultural calendar.
Glasgow International is a Creative Scotland Regularly Funded Organisation (RFO) and is managed by Glasgow Life, the charity that delivers culture and sport on behalf of Glasgow City Council.
