SUUM Project is pleased to announce details and speakers for the inaugural edition of SUUM Art Talk, a unique international art market conference taking place Thursday September 1, 2022 11am–6pm. The conference takes place at the COEX Starfield Library on the occasion of the 21st edition of Korean International Art Fair (KIAF) and the first edition of Frieze Seoul.

Welcoming a range of celebrated international speakers, each of whom is an expert in the global art market, the SUUM Art Talk programme creates an important platform for the discussion of “global art”, and to better understand the current developments and characteristics of the global art scene. The conference also provides an opportunity for the Korean public to learn more about the rapidly changing international art market and to create a foundation and strategy for the future expansion of K-art in the context of the global art industry.

SUUM Art Talk panellists and speakers include: A’strict, Tobias Berger, Caroline Bourgeois, Aaron Cezar, Vivienne Chow, Kelly Crow, Stephanie Dieckvoss, Johann König, James Lee, Jiyoon Lee, Stefano Rabolli Pansera, Skarlet Smatana, Lihsin Tsai and Nick Buckley Wood.

SUUM Art Talk is organized by curatorial consultancy SUUM Project. It is hosted by COEX Starfield Library (Shinsegae Property). It is sponsored by LUSH Korea and WWD Korea with in-kind support from LG Display and Trinity Broadcasting System. 

About SUUM Project
SUUM is an internationally focused contemporary art curating office founded in London by Jiyoon Lee in 2003. Meaning “breath” or “vitality” in Korean, SUUM champions contemporary art, using creativity and innovation to communicate with wider cultural audiences, and striving to bridge the Asian and European contemporary art worlds. Over the past 18 years, SUUM has organized more than 50 global contemporary art exhibitions in the world’s leading art museums and biennales, and advises many corporate supporters of the arts.

About Jiyoon Lee
SUUM Project Founding Director Dr. Jiyoon Lee is an accomplished art historian and curator with 25 years of experience organising contemporary art exhibitions in Seoul, London, New York, and Beijing. She holds a PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art and curated the Fifth Busan and Fifth Liverpool Biennales. From 2014-2016 she was Deputy Director of MMCA Seoul and is now Guest Chief Curator at Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. Her current work builds on the expansion and connection between art and contemporary technology, industry, and culture and her recent projects include spearheading the Pyeongchang Olympic Art Project (2018) and the acclaimed exhibition LUX: New Wave of Contemporary Art at London’s 180 The Strand.

About COEX Starfield Library
Located in the center of COEX Mall, Starfield Library is an open public space where anyone can freely come to visit. The Starfield Library consists of two floors with a total of 2,800 square meters in the center of Coexmall. With the concept of a comfortable study that gently embraces the entire space with the subtle lights from the 13-meter-high bookshelf. It has a total of 70,000 books. There is more joy than books in the Starfield Library. in addition, a plethora of events take place here such as meeting with authors, book talks, poetry reading, lectures, book concerts, and more.
