The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning is convening the upcoming Future Design Research: Experiments, Disruptions, Affordances symposium on September 29 and 30. Register here for this online and in person event featuring national and international speakers.
The symposium will explore of design innovation and investigate the new possibilities that digital technologies offer for contemporary design practice, the construction industry and education.
It will also explore how these emerging creative practices can produce meaningful social and cultural transformations, technological innovation, and advancement in construction and fabrication.
In-person keynote guests include: Jenny Wu of Los Angeles-based practice Oyler Wu / Theodore Spyropoulos, Director of the Architectural Association’s Design Research Laboratory and Director at Minimaforms / Carroll Go-Sam, (University of Queensland) Lecturer and researcher with focus on the intersection of Indigenous themes in architecture and place keeping. / Lisa Grocott leads the Future of Work and Learning research program in the Emerging Technologies Lab (Monash University).
Questions explored at the Future Design Research symposium include: What does the future hold in terms of disruption and affordances for design research? What is the potential for Design Research innovations in Education, Practice, and Industry in the digital age? How does design research create synergies with industry to solve our environmental crisis? What are the new trajectories in design research through artificial intelligence and smart materials? How can emerging creative practices produce meaningful social and cultural transformations, technological innovation, and advancement in construction and fabrication? What is the role of design research in education?
