The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts’ MFA in Visual Art program is an interdisciplinary program offering students a site for rigorous inquiry, intellectual generosity, and professional preparedness.
Part of Washington University in St. Louis, a tier-one research university, our program is an inclusive, close-knit community of renegade makers and thinkers. Our expansive facilities and studios serve as a think tank for intellectual and material experimentation across disciplines within the School and the University. Facilities
MFA-VA studios are located in Weil Hall, a LEED-Platinum facility. Students have access to numerous specialized spaces for making, including a 3D digital fabrication lab, a textile studio, an expansive printmaking suite—home to Island Press and the Kranzberg Book Studio—and much more. Studios are adjacent to the School's Kranzberg Art & Architecture Library and the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, which is currently hosting “Katharina Grosse Studio Paintings, 1988-2022: Returns, Revisions, Inventions” and serves as the site for the annual MFA-VA Thesis Exhibition.

Fall 2022 visiting artists and critics include Derrick Adams, David Campany, Katharina Grosse, Meleko Mokgosi, Shana Moulton, and Shaun O’Dell.
