Associated to the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), EINA is a leading school in art and design with a strong presence in Barcelona’s vibrant creative scene. The school is the core branch of EINA Foundation, a private and non-for-profit organisation with a vocation of public service to its community and a firm commitment to innovation and social impact through education, research, and transversal practice in design and art. In active dialogue with Eina Idea, the foundation’s disruptive think tank, and EINA Obra, its generator for new collaborative ventures in advanced sustainability, EINA promotes the development and dissemination of contemporary culture and thought to face present and future challenges on a global scale.
Since its foundation in 1967, EINA University Center of Design and Art Barcelona has played a leading role in training some of the most influential designers and creative figures in the local and national scene, and has been distinguished by its creative freedom and its critical and reflective spirit. With two campus locations in close vicinity to the Collserola Park—one of the rare natural reservations belonging to an urban environment in Europe—the student life at EINA is characterised by constant interaction with nature while remaining fully engaged in the city’s cultural life, a highly singular feature amongst the leading design campuses in Barcelona. Gathering more than 500 students, EINA’s current educational offer includes a full training cycle from the Bachelor Degree in Design, with specialisation tracks for Product Design, Space Design, Graphic Design, Visual Art and Design Culture; several masters degrees including MURAD, a referential post-graduate program in artistic and design research; alongside master’s degrees in Graphic Design and Space Design, postgraduate courses in Illustration, Curatorial Studies and Exhibitions Design. EINA is also one of the first schools in Spain to offer a Doctorate in Research in Design and Art.
Since the opening of EINA Bosc, its new workshops building, EINA has entered a stage of renewal and expansion in which sustainability, social justice and innovation appear as crucial values to the Foundation’s activity in all domains. We are now looking to appoint a new director to spearhead the future vision for the school, redefine the language of design pedagogies and practices, and build a new team aligned with the organisation’s shared aspirations. Reporting to the Foundation’s Board, EINA’s future director will be responsible for driving the University Center’s pedagogic strategy, as well as the provision of education and development of research in consolidated and new avenues. The Director’s vision shall also bring new collaborations and synergies to the School’s community, promote its impact in the international scene and critically contribute to its consolidation as a reference in contemporary creative practices in Catalonia and Spain. Ideal candidates for this role will bring a proven track record of strategic delivery and operational management in higher education, with first-hand experience in distinguished creative environments such as cultural institutions, design-driven and art organisations, and world-class studios. We are looking for a strongly trained, engaged, generous personality, passionate about academic innovation, capable of generating positive energy amongst colleagues, students, and peers, and a generator of contagious ambition for the School’s success.
