The MFA in Fine Arts at Columbia College Chicago prepares students to become professional working artists by combining studio practice, critique, history, and theory with business and entrepreneurial skills. One-third of our curriculum is focused on professional practices, including courses in project management, marketing, intellectual property, and legal issues critical for working artists. Our goal is to provide a robust and well-rounded professional framework to prepare students to thrive in their careers.

Chicago is an excellent home to launch a career in the arts. Affordable, socially aware, and culturally engaged, Chicago is a global creative hub with a welcoming artist community. We have designed our MFA to access this network through the mentorship of our faculty who are embedded in shaping this vibrant community. As a working artist, your success will depend on your network, and at Columbia, we will help you plan and initiate your own professional strategy for launching a career in the arts. Every student in our program is provided a studio space in downtown Chicago – just steps away from numerous world-class museums, galleries, and cultural institutions.

The deadline for funding consideration is January 13, 2023, after which applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. We have partially funded graduate fellowships, graduate assistantships, and opportunities for teaching as instructor of record.
