Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts offers six master degree programmes: Master of Arts Education (Dutch language programme), Master Performing Public Space, Master of Architecture, Master of Urbanism, Master of Music and Master Choreography (joint-degree with Codarts, Rotterdam).
Master Performing Public Space
The international one-year Master Performing Public Space (PPS) is designed for artists from a variety of art disciplines, who currently focus on public space as their artistic environment. This blended-learning programme (online/on-campus) is investigating public space as a backdrop for artistic expression and research. The primary goal of the programme is to enable students to adopt an independent and critical reflective attitude while inventively switching between different roles in the organizational process of their artistic research. This Master offers its students the necessary tools to perform critically and effectively as artists and researchers. PPS alumni are able to navigate complex modes and methods surrounding the contemporary artistic process and result. Application deadline: March 31, 2023.
Master of Architecture & Master of Urbanism
Are you interested in how our surroundings and buildings are designed? Are you eager to reflect on design and how to use it for future generations? Are you interested in urbanism and/or architecture? If you’re looking for a unique learning experience, then one of these four-year, part-time Master programmes might be for you. After the course, you will be proficient in connecting social, cultural, political, economic and technological parameters through design. You’ll gain experience and education beyond the school curriculum by combining your study with employment in a professional environment. Additionally, the academy itself is a laboratory for spatial assignments from real stakeholders, and the studio is the perfect place to apply new skills and methods to create design proposals for complex spatial problems. Application deadline: April 1, 2023.
Master of Music
Are you musically gifted and do you seek a career as a professional performer on an international stage? Then this two-year Master might be for you. This study programme is truly unique. Throughout your studies, you will be supervised by your main professor, your personal career coach, and a research coach. As a Master of Music student at Fontys, you receive a two-year personal budget. In previous academic years, the personal budget ranged from 3000 EUR to 4000 EUR per year for students in their first and second year of study. You can use your budget to personalize the curriculum in accordance with your artistic and professional needs. Students who wish to take lessons with artists who teach outside Fontys may use their scholarship to do so, even if the artist is based in another country. The school maintains strong connections with local concert halls and venues, so you will have ample performance opportunities in the region. Application deadline: April 1, 2023.
