In 2024 ArkDes opens a new collections exhibition comprising original drawings, sketches, photographs and models. We are pleased to announce financial support for four guest researchers who will have the opportunity to engage with the collection of more than four million objects, housed in Stockholm, Sweden.
Our ambition is to study, question, and find new ways of looking at the cultural heritage embodied by the collection. Guest researchers participate in the development of research-related perspectives and object selection for the forthcoming collections exhibition. During a period of three to six months, ArkDes offers a unique opportunity to dive into the collection, interact with the museum’s curatorial team, and collaborate in the development of the next incarnation of the museum.
Applications should include a project description that clarifies which subject area is of interest and how this relates to the museum’s collection. Subject areas can range widely, but we are particularly interested in project descriptions that relate to:
–Women working in the field of architecture, landscape architecture, or interior design and active during the 20th Century
–The relationship between design and Sámi culture
–Material from ArkDes’ photography and film collections
–19th-century built environments (such as World Exhibitions)
–Company and industrial towns in Sweden

As a guest researcher you will have access to the research premises at ArkDes in Stockholm. The research can be distributed over a period of three months (full-time) or six months (part-time), and researchers will receieve an honorarium of 135,000 SEK (approximately 13,000 USD). We regularly host common research seminars where you can discuss and develop your research. In November 2023 you will present your work at ArkDes’ annual research conference. At the close of the period, you will deliver a document outlining an object selection and a report linked to your project description.
