The Institute is awarding early applicants a three-month jump on their studies. With a dedicated advisor, as early as February, you may begin to refine your proposal, develop critical vocabulary, gain access to advanced readings to pace yourself and create relationships with current students, faculty and incoming peers. You will be encouraged to participate in a creative research crash course, meet monthly with your advisor for detailed feedback on your work and have regular discussions with your peer critique group. Additionally, you may attend a micro-residency in Nairobi with our current MFA and PhD researchers in January.

At Transart your practice is the research; Your practice will entwine writing and reflection to become rigorous and original creative research. Your research will culminate in the submission of an integrated thesis, which should include a presentation, exhibition, publication, reading, performance, screening, workshop or another form of dissemination.

Our praxis-centered programs revolve around local and virtual residencies. You will participate in symposia, fora, topical workshops, research seminars, exhibitions, screenings, cultural excursions, sound baths, listening sessions and other events to enrich your praxis. Past local residencies have occurred in Berlin, Mexico City, Liverpool and New York.

Practice PhD
Our Doctorate of Philosophy in Creative Research is for those with a specific project or question whose practice embodies or essentially drives their research. Your tenure in the program will transform your practice and your awareness of what it can do, significantly contributing to knowledge in your field and augmenting your credentials for academic positions, grants and inclusion in research projects.

One-year MFA
Our Master of Fine Art in Creative Practice is for artists, curators, writers, performers, and other creative researchers with an established practice and a specific research question or project. Flexible, rigorous, self-directed and expansive, Transart’s MFA supports you in creating a sustainable praxis while you develop a global community of peers and advisors. Fast-tracking to PhD your second summer is an option.
