Beginning April 29 and running through May 16, MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture candidates from Washington University’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will present a group show at 6172-78 Delmar Avenue. The exhibition represents the capstone project for 14 artists in the graduating class of 2023.
The 2023 MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture candidates are: Emily Bielski, Britain Bray, Aayesha Ejaz, Syed Shumyle Haider, Carrie Keasler, Bernadette Lamb, Meera Patel, Purvi Rajpuria, Danielle Ridolfi, Arthur Santoro, Stephanie S. Silva, Carrie Shapiro, Erin Williams, and Alex Schubert.
The opening will take place from 3pm to 8pm on Saturday, April 29, and is open to the public.
Chaired by John Hendrix, the Kenneth E. Hudson Professor of Art, the Sam Fox School’s MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture program combines studio practice in illustration and writing with the study of visual and material culture. With a focus on illustrator authorship, this two-year, fully residential program is made for illustrators, comic artists, and designers who are interested in popular visual matter of the modern and contemporary periods. The program draws on the vast resources of Washington University, including the D.B. Dowd Modern Graphic History Library.
Core faculty of the MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture include: John Hendrix, chair; D.B. Dowd; Heidi Kolk; Skye Lacerte; Joy Novak; Shreyas R Krishnan; and Dan Zettwoch. Additional faculty include: Heather Corcoran, Gerald Early, Jonathan Hanahan, Audra Hubbell, Edward Kinsella III, Ben Kiel, Penina Acayo Laker, Becca Leffell Koren, Jeff Pike, and Aggie Toppins.
