MA Curatorial Practice
The International Master Programme in Curatorial Practice (taught in English) at the Iceland University of the Arts places an emphasis on curation as an expanded, pluralistic and interdisciplinary practice and field of research with a view to strengthen insight and understanding of its complexities and potentials.
Learning together is a key theme in the studies; we focus attention on collaboration and knowledge sharing in conversation with academic staff and guest lecturers. You will work individually and in tandem with your co-students to create and curate exhibition projects in public venues, while also having the opportunity to pursue internships in museums and other art spaces. Working alongside experts in the field you will engage in critical debates and dialogues that may bring out both shared and different perspectives on curation.
A two year full-time study programme (120 ECTS), the MA offers study exchanges and courses abroad and culminates in a final thesis and curatorial project divided between practice (70 percent) and theory (30 percent).
You will be challenged to engage with questions and topics that take on political, ethical and environmental aspects, questions and challenges. Here curatorial practice is not seen as restricted to the field of art but also as a way to establish a dialogue with other fields of knowledge and expertise.
Our objective is to create a stimulating environment for students to advance their knowledge of the curatorial in contemporary theory and practice, and explore curating as tool of research, innovation, interpretation and mediation.
