The AMD Design Award 2023 is a contest for CG and media artists and creative students that is aimed to support the next generation of creators, focusing on the renewable energy transition as one of the main challenges facing our planet.
Advancing environmental sustainability at AMD
As a high performance and adaptive computing leader, powering the products and services that help solve the world’s most important challenges, AMD embraces the responsibility to protect our planet and the opportunity to help others reduce their environmental impacts. Our environmental programs and initiatives extend across our value chain, and we set an ambitious goal with the AMD Design Award to create a world full of art where everyone can openly create content and share ideas using sustainable and energy-efficient computing.
Exploring how we can contribute to these changes, last year, we focused the art contest on a vision of an eco-friendly future, and now, we’re happy to announce that this year’s AMD Design Award will shine a spotlight on crucial environmental concerns such as ecology and sustainable technological development. Prioritizing renewable energy sources usage is important because a growing number of people worldwide want to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and use smarter ways to consume energy.
Terms & participants
Starting from July 7 until October 15, 2023, AMD will accept submissions from CG artists, media artists, and students (including creative industries students, 2D/3D computer graphic artists, and design studios.) For the first time, this year sees entries from media artists being received as we believe they may play a vital role in pushing the boundaries of environmentally supportive visions into people’s day-to-day lives by exploring the possibilities of technological sustainability. The winners of the AMD Design Award Contest will be announced on October 31, 2023.
Nominations
The AMD Design Award 2023 Jury will evaluate graphic designs demonstrating high-performance digital solutions in the following three categories:
City
In this category, participants are encouraged to showcase groundbreaking solutions for Smart City infrastructure. The projects should demonstrate designs incorporating cutting-edge technologies and offering more reliable, integrated renewable energy systems. The emphasis lies in creating sustainable urban environments that harness the power of innovation to enhance energy efficiency and seamlessly integrate renewable energy sources.
Transport
This category encompasses designs aimed at revolutionizing transportation systems, specifically targeting zero-emission vehicles and environmentally sustainable modes of travel. Participants are encouraged to submit their visionary concepts for electric and hybrid vehicles, along with any other transformative solutions that mitigate the environmental impact of transportation. The focus is to promote cleaner mobility for a more sustainable future.
Social Poster
A new category was added to the 2023 Design Award. The nomination for Social Poster invites participants to unleash their creativity and encourages them to create a social statement in a digital format to illustrate how citizens can use energy responsibly in the future. This category emphasizes the importance of the social agenda and sustainability and aims to raise awareness and inspire people to adopt sustainable practices in the energy sector. Participants must showcase compelling visual effects to convey the importance of responsible energy consumption in a visually striking and thought-provoking manner.
Prizes
Three winners in each category are in for a treat with exciting prizes that will ignite and fuel their creative spirit! Among the prizes are high-performance workstations powered by the AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors, AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors for Creators, AMD Radeon Graphics Cards, and high-performance laptops that will enhance innovative prowess and lead to new heights of success.
The AMD Design Award 2023 jury will pay special attention to the social agenda behind the submissions. The winning student submission in each category will receive access to the world-class Learn Squared courses from key industry experts.
Additionally, we are excited to announce that each winner of the contest will receive an exclusive prize: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations license, further enhancing their creative capabilities.
Additional information
The AMD Design Award will be held for the third time. The 2021 and 2022 awards focused on fresh perspectives on human evolution and concepts for creating eco-cities on land and underwater.
