Fondazione Torino Musei was established in 2002 by the City of Turin to manage and promote the city’s municipal museums: Palazzo Madama—Museo Civico d’Arte Antica, GAM—Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea and MAO—Museo d’Arte Orientale.
The Galleria di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino (GAM), the first municipal art Gallery to be founded in Italy, preserves one of the most important parts of the national artistic heritage of the last two centuries and historically constitutes a reference model in the Italian panorama of modern art. Furthermore, it is a recognised venue for the presentation of the most recent and advanced experiences in contemporary art, including from an international perspective.
The Foundation defined a project for the overall renovation of the building. The project represents an exceptional opportunity to reposition the museum internationally and to generate positive consequences for the entire contemporary art sector. The aim is to relaunch the role and prestige of the museum complex through a design process that interprets and develops the historic avant-garde spirit that distinguished the birth of the Gallery. The project is based on the principles of environmental sustainability, energy saving, architectural innovation, technology and new engaging and attractive models of fruition for the public.
The Director is responsible for the overall administration of the museum complex, the preservation and management of the Museum’s assets, the sound administration of the Museum’s services and compliance with its regulations.
The Director must define the museum’s development direction by coordinating its programming and activities and taking into account the characteristics that represent the Museum’s history and collections, in conjunction with the Foundation.
The GAM Director must have specific and proven scientific experience both at a national and international level in the field of Modern and Contemporary Art. Furthermore, the Director must have managerial experience with particular regard to the management of museums or similar important cultural institutions.
