Emerging and mid-career visual artists working in any medium are encouraged to apply for the 2024–25 and 2025–26 Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellowships. Established in 1986, the fellowship is jointly sponsored by the Saint Louis Art Museum and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, with support from the Freund Endowment Fund. Fellows are on campus for one semester. During this time, they teach one class in the school’s College of Art and occupy an on-campus studio to begin production of a solo exhibition. The exhibition is mounted the following year as part of the Saint Louis Art Museum’s “Currents” series. The teaching award is 40,000 USD to be combined with an additional production grant from the museum.

Applicants must have an MFA, completed graduate school at least five years ago, and exhibition experience. We are looking for artists who are making compelling work and have an interest in teaching to join our vibrant and creative community. Prior teaching experience is not required. Applicants submit a portfolio of work in addition to making a general proposal for a class they would like to teach, related to their practice and interest areas.

Current and past fellows include: Catherine Opie (2000), Ellen Gallagher (2002–03), Sarah Oppenheimer (2007–08), Andréa Stanislav (2015–16), Jess T. Dugan (2020–21), and Meleko Mokgosi (2021–22), among many others.

Applications are due January 31, 2024. For more information and to apply, visit here
