The international contemporary art fair ArtVilnius, marks its 15th anniversary this year and is delighted to announce an open call for applications from galleries and artists wishing to exhibit. Widely regarded as the most important visual arts event in the Baltics, the fair will take place between October 4–6 in Vilnius. Art galleries have until May 30 to submit their applications to participate.

The jubilee contemporary art fair ArtVilnius’24 at the Litexpo Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre will feature the most exciting and cutting-edge developments in contemporary art and bring visitors face to face with a selection of the most interesting international galleries, artists, curators, and representatives of art institutions. Each year, the fair brings together around 70 art galleries and institutions from more than 20 countries and receives 22,000 visitors.

Located just 15 minutes outside of the city centre, the 12,000-square-metre indoor and outdoor spaces of the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre Litexpo is Lithuania’s prime exhibition space.

In addition to the diverse presentations of artworks at each stand, ArtVilnius’24 boasts an additional programme comprising Project Zone and the exhibition The Path, as well as talks, panel discussions, and events in the city, thereby acting as a catalyst for the Baltic and Northern Europe art market and progressive contemporary art scene. Over the three-day run of the fair, visitors, guests, and collectors not only have the opportunity to buy artworks but also become acquainted with the region’s dynamic art scene, at both the fair itself and in the city of Vilnius.

Focus on Northern Europe
The focus of ArtVilnius’24 is on Northern Europe, and the organisers are therefore expecting more participants from Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Estonia, and Latvia this year.

Project Zone
Every year, ArtVilnius presents Project Zone, a specially curated showcase of the most renowned art institutions, artists, and curatorial projects. This year, Project Zone will be curated by the curator and writer Valentinas Klimašauskas, who is also curating the Lithuanian Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale. According to Klimašauskas, “although the focus of this fair is a particular geographical region, the geopolitical, cultural and other territories and borders in today’s world are more porous, honeycombed, heterogeneous and unstable than they may seem at first glance.”

Applications for galleries
Applications for galleries will be reviewed and selected by a jury of art critics and art market experts. This year’s ArtVilnius jury will select 60 galleries to present artwork in stands ranging between 30 and 50 square metres that will be customised to each participant’s needs. Special conditions are offered to emerging galleries of up to three years old wishing to participate in ArtVilnius’24.

Applications for the exhibition The Path
Individual artists are invited to propose projects for inclusion in the group exhibition The Path. This annual exhibition of sculpture, performance and installation is a curated exhibition in which works are selected from the submitted applications by the curator. This year, The Path will be curated by Maria Arusoo, Director of the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art, curator, and long-time commissioner of the Estonian National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
