Farewell to Museum for Preventive Imagination

We are now in the last weekend of the exhibition Post Scriptum. A museum forgotten by heart, and of the entire Museum for Preventive Imagination programme, which has unfolded at MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, under the Artistic Direction of Luca Lo Pinto, over the past five years.

Before I say goodbye, I wanted to tell you about one last project: the two catalogues that accompany the exhibition. Post Scriptum, with works by 37 artists, spreads throughout the museum’s architectural spaces giving rise to an open finale. The works of Tolia Astakhishvili (featuring Thea Djordjadze, Heike Gallmeier, Dylan Peirce), Absalon, Vincenzo Agnetti, Maurizio Altieri, Alex Bag, Beatrice Bonino, Victor Cavallo, Francesca Cefis, Alassan Diawara, Buck Ellison, Luciano Fabro, Hamishi Farah, Simone Forti, Pippa Garner, Alberto Garutti, Isa Genzken, Lenard Giller, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Adam Gordon, Pierre Guyotat, Sohrab Hura, Thomas Hutton, Allan Kaprow, KUKII (aka Lafawndah), Rosemary Mayer, Sandra Mujinga, Charlemagne Palestine, Paolo Pallucco & Mireille Rivier, Lorenzo Silvestri, Diane Simpson, Lukas Wassmann, Gillian Wearing and Issy Wood, fill the museum’s exhibition spaces and seep out onto indoor rooftops, the toilet, and the corridors, stimulating new reflections on the museum in present times.

The documentation of Post Scriptum. A museum forgotten by heart avoids the conventions and structure of a traditional catalogue, rather taking the form of a hybrid editorial object composed only of images. I invited art director and stylist Francesca Cefis to implement a project based on the editorial languages of fashion, with the exhibition and museum as a starting point. The result is two catalogues, from the perspective of two different authors, photographers Alassan Diawara and Lukas Wassmann, produced in collaboration with adidas Originals and Emporio Armani, and published by NERO Editions.

I look forward to seeing you tonight at MACRO, at 6pm, for the book launch, followed at 7pm by a live performance by Charlemagne Palestine. The night can only continue in dancing at OCTOPUS LOVE PARTY featuring Sandra Mason and L.U.C.A. aka Francisco (Teatro delle Bellezze, Piazza dei Coronari, 1).

On this special Valentine's Day we will say goodbye to a project that since 2020 has experimented with transforming the museum into a three-dimensional magazine. The latter was organized in the form of columns and features, covering various creative figures, as well as responding to poetic intuitions and artistic research, in an interdisciplinary, undisciplined and rhizomatic dimension, which welcomed more than 250 artists in a palimpsest of more than 65 exhibitions.
To tell its story, I took the form of an octopus, who is now free to dive into other seas, and other imaginations.
