The exhibition presents works from Alexander Schröder’s donation, which is the largest in the history of the Kunstverein Bremerhaven from 1886 e.V.
The collector and gallery owner Alexander Schröder began collecting contemporary art in the 1990s, focussing in particular on conceptual strategies and socio-critical perspectives. The exhibition provides an insight into his identity as a collector and reflects poetic, idiosyncratic and critical tendencies in contemporary art since the 1990s. In addition to works that question existing norms with regard to social spaces, architecture, gender, identity and sexuality, the exhibition shows forms of critical painting as well as artistic positions of social and economic criticism.
