In its most expansive iteration yet, Art Central 2025 will feature 108 galleries and the works of over 500 artists from 45 countries, marking a significant milestone in the Fair's history. An onsite video art cinema, lecture-performance programme, and commissioned installation by Nadim Abbas, curated by Aaditya Sathish, alongside ambitious gallery programmes curated by Enoch Cheng, define the Fair’s artistic landscape. The tenth edition of Art Central will take place on Hong Kong’s iconic Central Harbourfront from 26 to 30 March 2025, with a VIP Preview on Tuesday, 25 March.
Legend
To commemorate its tenth edition, Art Central introduces Legend, a special feature highlighting the contributions of six pioneering artists from the Asia-Pacific. These include Ay-O, presented by Whitestone Gallery; Eikoh Hosoe, shown by see+ Gallery; Emily Kame Kngwarreye, presented by Rebecca Hossack Gallery; Dean-E Mei, featured at Astar Gallery; May Fung, Karin Weber Gallery; and Lee In Seob, exhibited by Suppoment Gallery.
Nadim Abbas
Commissioned by Art Central, Hong Kong-based artist Nadim Abbas will unveil a large-scale installation titled A Brazen Rift (After Branzi). Inspired by the architectural drawings of Andrea Branzi, Abbas transforms these two-dimensional visions into complex, modular set pieces, reimagining Branzi's cellular structures in a dynamic, three-dimensional form.
Video art
Art Central’s Video Art programme offers a platform for leading artists to present video art in a dedicated onsite video theatre. Titled On the Shores of…, the programme explores and challenges how contemporary networks regulate access to people and information, empowering artists to challenge hegemonic narratives and arrive at undiscovered shores of logic, reason and understanding. Highlights include works by Shu Lea Cheang, Kary Kwok, Raqs Media Collective, and Riar Rizaldi.
Akeroyd Collection
The Video Art programme will feature a curated selection of works from Akeroyd Collection, the moving image facet of the collection of Shane Akeroyd, a Hong Kong-based philanthropist and moving-image champion. Presented for one hour each day at the Fair, visitors can experience an exclusive showing of moving image-based works by artists Stephanie Comilang, Rei Hayama, Shuang Li, and Robert Sandler.
Performance & lecture performance
Art Central 2025 unveils a compelling programme of performance art and lecture-performances. Titled In Search of the Miraculous after Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader’s final unfinished work, the programme assembles artists who approach history, materials, and the body with resonant gestures grounded in seeking, inviting audiences into open, generative spaces of play. Highlights include works by Singaporean artist and documentarian Charmaine Poh; Guangzhou-based artist Xiaoshi Qin; and Hong Kong artist IV Chan. New projects will be presented by Hou Lam Tsui and Wong Pak Hang; Shavonne Wong; and Wong Ka Ying (KY).
Neo
Neo creates an entry point for galleries to feature cutting-edge or undiscovered artists in their first and second years of participation. Amongst the fifteen presenting galleries from Asia, Europe, and the Americas are Cub_ism_Artspace (Shanghai), FIM (Seoul), Gallery CNK (Daegu), and Intersections (Singapore). Notably, Neo will introduce the Fair’s first galleries from Serbia: Monolog Gallery (Belgrade) and Lithuania: Meno Parkas Gallery (Kaunas).
Yi Tai sculpture & installation projects
Five artists have been selected based on their proposals to present large-scale works as part of this long-standing feature which inspires adventure and dialogue; the presenting artists and galleries are Mark Lawson Bell, Swanfall Gallery; Dai Ying, Yiwei Gallery; Shinduk Kang, Galerie Pici; Dean-E Mei, Astar Gallery; and Roxane Revon, The Locker Room.
