Eight residency programs for artists and creative practitioners

Situated Creative Practices for the Pluriverse (SIT-PLU) is a Creative Europe Cooperation project tackling socio-ecological challenges through cross-disciplinary research and context-specific artistic interventions. Drawing on the Zapatista concept of the pluriverse—“a world where many worlds fit”—the project embraces diverse ways of knowing and living, foregrounding buen vivir (social well-being), communal interdependence, and the relationships between human and more-than-human entities.
The project includes a program of annual residencies (SIT-RES) to be held in 2026 and 2027 in which eight selected artists and creative practitioners will be invited to engage in four different contexts to explore innovative perspectives of cross-disciplinary research and new forms of context-specific artistic interventions.
The open call for participation in SIT-RES 2026 is now open for the following institutions and contexts:
–Baltan Laboratories (Netherlands) will work with Landpark Assisië in Biezenmortel, a residential environment for people with intellectual disabilities;
–Idensitat (Spain) will explore the theme of sacrifice zones, focusing upon neighbourhoods in the metropolitan area near the mouth of the Besos river;
–Lungomare (Italy) will investigate riverscapes in Bolzano and their ecological interconnections within the wider project FLUX – Rivers Interventions and explorations;
–ZEMOS98 (Spain) will involve residents in the Cantabrian-Leonese mountain range, where a strong social and environmental resistance is growing against the current model of large-scale wind farm development.
Process
Application process occurs in two phases and evaluated by a committee composed of representatives of SIT-PLU partners:

In selecting residents we value artistic approaches that leave a meaningful and lasting imprint on the territory whether manifested as a physical intervention in public space, as evidence of relationships formed during the residency, or as the catalyst for ongoing processes that enrich community engagement over time. We are particularly interested in methods that involve new audiences and create a culture that embraces diversity and discursive exchange.
Phase II
Three selected applicants (per residency) will be asked to develop a specific proposal in dialogue with the host institution.
Deadlines for SIT-RES 2026
Phase I submission deadline: June, 20
Phase I results: end of July
Phase II submission deadline: August, 24
Phase II results: end of September
The open call for SIT-RES 2027 will be launched at the beginning of 2026.
Conditions
SIT-RES 2026 starts in January 2026 and SIT-RES 2027 in November 2026.
The selected residents will receive an artist fee of 13,500 EUR and a production budget.

Launch events
Each institution will hold online Q&A sessions to illustrate its context and specifics.
A special presentation event will be held at Floating University in Berlin on Friday, June 6.

SIT-PLU stems from acknowledging that we cannot address contemporary crises using the same categories that originated them. Arts and culture can be significant triggers for contributing to new perspectives emerging and taking hold, but, for doing so, a particular approach should be explored: one in which creative practitioners and researchers take on “situated” approaches.
