Le Fresnoy—Studio National des Arts Contemporains seeks her/his Director. In over 25 years, Le Fresnoy—Studio national des arts contemporains, located in Tourcoing, North of France, has become a national center of excellence and an internationally renowned institution for training, research, production, and artistic, audiovisual, and digital dissemination.

With the languages of modernity—photography and cinema—as its reference culture, Le Fresnoy is the only French establishment for artistic training and experimentation with a strong tropism towards digital and emerging technologies applied to creation. What makes Le Fresnoy unique is the way it teaches students to take action and carry out projects under the guidance of nationally and internationally renowned artists from a variety of disciplines, using professional technical equipment. The artists, recruited at the post-graduate level, are given the opportunity to produce works intended for wide distribution. A PhD program is also offered to artists who wish to combine their artistic activity with a theoretical dimension.

Our training, research and production missions are backed up by an ambitious dissemination policy: exhibitions, films, and a variety of events follow one another throughout the year, exploring the challenges of contemporary creation. All of these programs appeal to a wide audience. In particular, the Panorama exhibition, held every autumn, presents all of Le Fresnoy’s productions, including over 50 works: films, videos, installations, performances, and digital works. Le Fresnoy has two cinemas open to the public, which operate throughout the year.

Assignments
The Director of Le Fresnoy—Studio national des arts contemporains will be responsible for devising and implementing a renewed educational and artistic project from a multidisciplinary and partnership perspective, guaranteeing its financial sustainability and complying with the strategic guidelines laid down by the Board of Trustees and the public partners.

He/she will be responsible for
–Organizing the training and research program and supporting professional development,
–Designing Le Fresnoy's artistic programming (exhibitions, films, events) and ensuring its dissemination, developing a policy aimed at the widest possible audience by setting up collaborations at different levels,
–Consolidating Le Fresnoy's regional and local roots and its national and international influence,
–Ensuring the smooth running of the establishment in all its aspects: educational, artistic, budgetary, technical, administrative, and managerial, while respecting the human and financial resources allocated,
–Increasing cooperation with artistic and cultural operators at regional, national, and international levels.

Profile
–Experience in managing a large-scale cultural establishment or project and proven artistic experience,
–Knowledge of the sectors and professional networks of the visual arts, cinema, and digital creation, with an openness to other artistic disciplines and to the relationship between creation and advances in science and technology,
–Familiarity with the challenges of higher education and research,
–Understanding of cultural policy issues and experience in relations with public partners and in seeking private partnerships and sponsorship,
–The ability to devise a strategy to enhance the attractiveness of the region and open it up to the widest possible audience,
–Management skills, respect for social dialogue, commitment to the fight against VHSS, and the ability to unite a team around a shared project,
–Fluency in French and English.
