The group exhibition VENICE_TRANSFORMED, CONNECTING PEOPLE THOUGH ART_ARCHITECTURE in the period of the 19th Architecture Biennale will be about many disciplines that shape it; art and architecture is here at the centre.
The world premiere of Julian Opie’s virtual reality installation OP.VR/Venice, is one of the highlights of this show. The artist developed an ad hoc virtual reality installation for the occasion. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in the Venetian alleys, without having to walk around the city. An innovative work pushing the boundaries between reality and representation.
Venue
Palazzo Pisani is after Palazzo Ducale the second largest Palazzo in Venice, located at Campo Santo Stefano, Campo Pisani nearby Accademia Bridge and one of the most important and majestic buildings in Venice; since 1897 it’s hosting the Music Conservatory. The splendid halls still have some decorative frescoes and paintings, the exhibition will take place at the Entrance Hall, Salone Nobile and rooms located nearby in the first floor.
Thanks to its favourable geographical location, Venice developed into one of the most important trading metropolises in the Mediterranean from the 10th century onwards. The city had consolidated its position between the Orient and the Occident and over time developed into a bridge between East and West. The Venice Biennale, founded in 1895 and the mother of all Biennials—is the equivalent of the Oscars or Cannes Film Festival. It's the only major art exhibition in the world which has national representations, so there is a sense that it is the Olympics of the art world.
