From July 2 to September 14, 2025, Milan will celebrate Remo Salvadori (Cerreto Guidi, 1947) with a multi-site exhibition across three symbolic locations of the city—Palazzo Reale, the Museo del Novecento, and the San Gottardo in Corte Church (part of the Museo del Duomo di Milano tour)—offering the public an immersive journey through the work and vision of one of Italy’s leading contemporary artists.
Promoted by the Comune di Milano—Cultura and produced by Palazzo Reale and Eight Art Project in collaboration with the Museo del Novecento and the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milan and under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the exhibition is curated by Elena Tettamanti and Antonella Soldaini. The presentation at the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Reale will be open to the public free of charge.
The project began on July 2 with four site-specific works in Palazzo Reale’s Sala del Piccolo Lucernario and Sala delle Cariatidi, along with two installations, one of which will be permanent, at the Museo del Novecento. These works prelude the opening of the main retrospective on Palazzo Reale’s Piano Nobile on July 16, and are completed by two additional works installed in the San Gottardo in Corte Church, which is part of the visiting tour of the Museo del Duomo di Milano from July 18. Each venue features artworks which were created from the 1970s until today, some of which have been reimagined in response to the unique character of each space—a defining aspect of Salvadori’s practice, which thrives on dialogue with its environment and the viewer.
Remo Salvadori at Palazzo Reale will present more than fifty emblematic artworks in what is the most comprehensive solo exhibition ever dedicated to one of the most significant figures in contemporary Italian art. Rather than following a traditional monographic or chronological structure, the exhibition was conceived by the artist together with the curators as an open and evolving experience. Every element—each artwork, the presence of the visitor, and the architectural context—plays an active role in shaping the meaning of the exhibition as it unfolds in the moment. The exhibition layout focuses on the present, placing historically important artworks in dialogue with new site-specific installations. The result is a visual rhythm that invites deep and unexpected associations. The show highlights the relationship between the artworks and the architecture in which they are, alternating between dense, dynamic arrangements and moments of quiet contemplation.
The third chapter of this prelude to the full exhibition unfolds at the Museo del Novecento, where two significant works by Salvadori are on view. Alveare (Hive), 1996 (2024), originally conceived in 1996 and revisited in multiple iterations, is now permanently installed along the large wall next to the museum’s entrance ramp and will remain on permanent view as part of the museum’s collection. The second installation, Nel momento (In the Moment), 1974 (2025), is a site-specific installation composed of twelve lead sheets placed over the museum’s skylight. This artwork creates a striking point of connection with the Sala delle Cariatidi, allowing visitors to view the piece from both the museum gallery above and the room directly below. In addition to the artworks presented at Palazzo Reale and Museo del Novecento, the exhibition unfolds further with a dedicated installation at the San Gottardo in Corte Church—accessible via the Museo del Duomo di Milano’s visitor tour. 10 frecce nei colori di minerali (10 Arrows in the Colors of Minerals), 1969–1970, is in dialogue with the sacred architecture of the church, offering a contemplative experience outside the traditional museum setting.
