DIALOGUE: Unread is presented as part of the Korea Arts Management Service’s Grant for Artist Management Program, showcasing the work of ten emerging contemporary Korean artists in its sixth edition.
This exhibition explores how sensory perception is delayed or deferred within today’s oversaturated landscape of visual and informational stimuli. The term “unread” does not merely indicate a message left unopened. Rather, it gestures toward a state in which sensation has arrived yet remains unregistered, or a world that resists assimilation into preconfigured systems of recognition.
In response to an environment that demands swift interpretation and clear responses, the exhibition proposes a structure grounded in delay, incompletion, and indeterminacy. The participating artists carve intentional gaps within systems of repetition and reception, reactivating sentiments and images that have remained unresolved or unreceived. Instead of aiming to articulate specific meanings, their works suggest a quiet lingering with what has yet to be perceived.
DIALOGUE: Unread invites viewers to sense the condition of non-response, rather than seek immediate understanding. It offers a contemplative space in which to dwell within the as-yet-unread, engaging with the subtle presence of a world that continues to await reception.
Daehyung Lee stated, “Unread reflects a moment when perception is no longer instantaneous but suspended. In a world saturated with speed and clarity, the exhibition asks what it means to dwell in what is delayed, unread, or unresolved. It invites us to sense the signals that have arrived but not registered, to feel emotions before they form into words, and to listen to meanings that hesitate to conclude. This is not about decoding the world faster, but about allowing room for resonance, ambiguity, and quiet insistence.”
