Events programme of the 2025 Summer Academy

Diversity of the future
Our programme of events this year attempts to approach this question through exhibitions, artist talks, discussions, a reading, lectures, film screenings and music sets.

The artist talk with Nika Neelova and Christian Kosmas Mayer in cooperation with the Museum der Moderne Salzburg will focus on the “archaeologies of the future and material memory”. Lilli Hollein and Matylda Krzykowski are organising an evening on the subjectivity of encounters and Urbanthinktank_next are calling for 100 ideas for active citizenship in Salzburg.

A reading by Elizabeth Pich and Stefanie Sargnagel entitled “Komische Künstlerinnen” will explore the boundaries of (black) humour and sarcasm and address the acceptance of female comedy.

Paul Feigelfeld will give a lecture on the “‘Stille Post’ of knowledge between China and the West”. Finally, in the Fotohof, a panel discussion with Valentina Seidel, Anja Manfredi and Michael Mauracher will shed light on the different types of teaching and take a closer look at the beginnings of photography training in Austria and the photo classes at the Summer Academy.

Exhibitions
This year’s exhibition programme kicks off with the teachers of the architecture class Urbanthinktank_next, presenting their 100 ideas for Salzburg in the Stadtgalerie Zwergelgartenpavillon on July 17. Hannah Tilson and Otis Blease open their first joint presentation Bridge | Brücke at kura-t kunstraum traklhaus on July 24 and Sarker Protick shows his exhibition Shadows in the Sky at Fotohof from August 7.

Sunset Kino
The long-standing cooperation with the Salzburger Kunstverein has continued this year with three film screenings curated by teaching artists from the Summer Academy. This year Ofri Cnaani, Pablo Martínez-Zárate, Sophie Thun and Pascal Petignat will organise an evening.

Open studios
The teaching artists and their students invite you to the Open Studios for tours, film presentations, performances and talks. A special opportunity to visit the fortress (August 1, 15, and 29, 4–8pm) or the quarry (August 9, 10am–2pm) and immerse yourself in the extraordinary atmosphere of the course locations.

Music sets
On three Fridays (August 1, 15, and 29), the Zwergelgartenpavillon will once again become the centre of contemporary club culture. In addition to the internationally renowned DJs Hatica, Kahlory, Antonia XM and Lynn Mayya, two spots have been put out to tender in cooperation with the Salzburg Club Commission, thus also integrating the local scene.
