The Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), with the seat at U Akademie 4, Prague 7, Czech Republic, in accordance with Section 77 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll and the valid AVU Regulations for the selection procedure for occupying the positions of academic staff announces a selection procedure for the position of a Lecturer in the Art in Context Programme (STUDIO Course). This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position and is intended for graduates of art universities.
Job description
The STUDIO Course is the central component of AVU’s English-taught, studio-based Master’s Programme Art in Context at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. It is conceived as a course where students develop artistic practices rooted in real-world contexts. Emphasis is placed on collaboration, participation, and responsiveness to diverse cultural, historical, and social environments. The course encourages students to engage with communication across differences through contemporary art.
The position involves teaching at Master’s level, potential supervision of PhD candidates, and active participation in the academic, research, and administrative development of the programme in collaboration with the Head of Programme.
Responsibilities include
–Designing and delivering the STUDIO course
–Planning semester themes and collaborating with co-tutors
–Conducting individual and group consultations with students
–Participating in study trips, exhibitions, debates and other activities
–Serving as a member of AVU academic review panels and juries
–Engaging in research and artistic practice relevant to the programme’s focus
–Contributing to the development of the programme’s curriculum, public visibility, and international partnerships
This is a full-time position (equivalent to 40 hours per week) that includes teaching, tutoring, assessment and administrative duties, with a teaching load of 12–14 contact hours per week.
Applicants are asked to submit a proposal outlining their concept for how the STUDIO Course would be taught. The proposal should emphasize artistic practice as a mode of interaction, cultural exchange, and collaboration, and consider how art can support dialogue across cultural, social, and disciplinary boundaries. Sensitivity to diverse perspectives and an interest in collaborative approaches are highly valued.

Core modules
Studio: main artistic practice course (includes projects, assignments, individual and group consultations)—eight hours/week Integrated discipline I: seminars led by invited artists—two hours/week Integrated discipline II: workshop with invited international guest—20 hours/semester Reading & Writing Practice I / II—theory and practice seminars—two hours/week
Elective modules: In addition, students choose from a catalogue of elective courses tailored to their individual interests and research focus.
Candidate profile

Working conditions
–Initial one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years based on peer-review
–Assistant professor rank: gross salary of CZK 36,000 / month plus a CZK 15,000 / month relocation allowance for a non-resident candidate (total CZK 51,000 / approx. EUR 2,000 / month)
–Full health insurance and social security coverage in accordance with Czech Labour Law
–Eight weeks of paid vacation per year
–Support with housing and settling-in logistics

Selection procedure
The admission process consists of two rounds. The first round will be conducted without the personal participation of applicants. The second round will take the form of an interview with shortlisted candidates, held online. Interviews are expected to take place during the first week of September 2025. The interview will be conducted in English. Candidates invited to the second round will be informed of the interview date at least two weeks in advance.
AVU reserves the right to cancel the selection procedure at any stage without stating a reason.
