Proposal deadline: January 15, 2026
The Canada Council for the Arts invites exhibition proposals for Canada’s official representation at the 20th International Architecture Exhibition which will take place at the Canada Pavilion, in the Giardini della Biennale.
The Venice Architecture Biennale is a prestigious international event that engages critical conversations about contemporary architecture that attracts 300,000 visitors annually, among them architects, artists, designers, critics, politicians, students and cultural leaders from around the world.
The Canada Council is looking for proposals with bold ideas that inspire, challenge and respond to current realities through the lens of contemporary Canadian architecture. The call is open to cross-disciplinary teams from incorporated Canadian organizations, institutions or registered businesses. The team must include architects and curators who will lead and manage the project. The team may also include contributors and collaborators such as artists, writers and designers.
The selected team will be responsible for all aspects of the exhibition, from conception and design to production, and will be expected to work closely with the Canada Council throughout the development and delivery phases of the project.
The application process has two stages:
Stage I: Proposals submitted through the call for expression of interest with a deadline of January 15, 2026.
Stage II: Shortlisted candidates from the call invited to fully develop their project and participate in an interview.
The selection committee is comprised of Betsy Williamson, Architect, Principal, Williamson Williamson; Sergio Morales, Architect, Founding Partner, Chevalier Morales, Naomi Potter, Director/Curator, Esker Foundation; and David Fortin, Architect, Principal, David T Fortin Architect | Professor, University of Waterloo School of Architecture.
The selected team and project for the Canada Pavilion at the 20th International Architecture Exhibition will be announced in May 2026.
