Threads of Kinship

Organized in collaboration with He Art Museum (Shunde, China), Threads of Kinship departs from the radical legacy of the Self-Comb Sisters, women in early 20th-century South China who rejected marriage and formed independent communities, sustaining themselves through silk production. In this quiet yet powerful act of refusal, they redefined womanhood as a commitment to autonomy and chosen kinship. A dozen contemporary artists reimagine kin-making as a political force, showing how care, protest, and collaboration build alternative belonging and connect past resistance to future emancipations.
KADIST Double Takes & Screenings
Ecologies of Memory and Resistance

Last week, Ecologies of Memory and Resistance, a screening of experimental films exploring ecology, ancestral knowledge, and Indigenous worldviews, traced the entanglements of land, identity, and survival. Presented in collaboration with Emami Art for their Experimental Film Festival 2025, the program featured five works by artists and collectives from South Asia, Australia, and the Americas, blending non-fiction with performance, mythology, and media poetics.
Crossing

Across China and at Aranya Art Center, Beidaihe
Crossing is a collaborative moving-image program developed in partnership with six institutions across China: A4 Art Museum (Chengdu), Kunming Contemporary Art Gallery with Wu Art Museum (Kunming), Tsenpo Museum (Nangqian), Organhaus (Chongqing), and Aranya Art Center (Beidaihe). The initiative extends KADIST’s international commitment to the moving image as a catalyst for place-based inquiry and spiritual resonance. In addition to the screenings, parallel public programs and exhibitions will unfold at Aranya Art Center, which hosts the program’s final chapter.
Blind Thread

Inspired by Donna Haraway’s Staying with the Trouble, this program uses the metaphor of cat’s cradle, a collaborative string game, to explore connection, failure, and pattern-making as meaningful gestures. Works unfold as knots in a dynamic web across formats and geographies, streaming on Pivô Satélite and KADIST.tv, and presented in person in São Paulo, with videos from both institutions’ collections.
Extended Views

Simian, Copenhagen
In collaboration with artist-run space Simian, Extended Views presents video works from the KADIST collection in dialogue with two upcoming exhibitions: a group show curated by Fabian Flückiger, and a solo exhibition by Moyra Davey. Presented in Simian’s cinema room, the program features works by Dineo Seshee Bopape, Isadora Neves Marques, Anton Vidokle, and Marion Scemama & David Wojnarowicz. A second iteration will be presented at Simian in 2026.
Portals, Pathways, and the Space Between Us

Portals, Pathways, and the Space Between Us explores placemaking, shapeshifting, and the temporalities of Kentucky through the Ohio River. Presented as a series of one-night outdoor video programs across the state, this six-part exhibition pairs works by Katinka Bock and Sora Kim with artists from Appalachia. Through texture, sound, myth, and gesture, the program highlights the resonance, reverence, and vibrancy of Kentucky’s landscapes and histories.
Archipels

French Institute of Senegal, Dakar
This film series, organized with the French Institute of Senegal, is an invitation to revisit islands, not only as places of contemplation but as living spaces where issues of paramount importance unfold. Although islands are frequently seen as havens, places where time seems to stand still, they are also characterized by intricate social, economic, ecological, and cultural realities. Seven works from the KADIST collection will be screened across two evenings.
KADIST Residencies
Felwine Sarr

Résidence Tallard, Paris
This fall, philosopher, writer, and musician Felwine Sarr joins KADIST's Résidence Tallard in co-invitation with the Centre Pompidou and the Festival d’Automne, for a research period on hospitality and repair. His current exploration, La Fabrique du Présent, examines African philosophical, cultural, and ethical resources as levers for transformation. Through lectures, workshops, and public interventions, it moves beyond recognition toward an African presence fully engaged in the world.
