Loop Barcelona, the annual gathering dedicated to artists’ cinema, happens again this November with a non-traditional Art Fair (November 18–20), a Symposium (November 19–20), a Commoning Network (November 20), a new format of expert’s meetings, and a Festival (November 11–22).
Loop creates a community for artists' cinema enthusiasts where artists, collectors, curators, gallerists, art institutions, and distributors meet and establish alliances. Through its diverse programs, ranging from screenings to exhibitions, talks, performances and other encounters, Loop facilitates collaborations and offers new perspectives and reflections on art and artists’ cinema.
This year’s Loop Fair (November 18–20) will showcase 38 films (with over 12 premieres), selected by a committee of collectors chaired by Jean-Conrad Lemaître and including Isabelle Lemaître, Haro Cumbusyan, Renée Drake, and Josée and Marc Gensollen. In 2025, Loop Fair brings together national and international galleries, long-standing participants with new presences. Each selected artist champions a remarkable geographical and generational diversity, attesting to the vitality of contemporary artists’ film and video.

Loop Fair is enriched by the online platform Loop Virtual, which expands the reach of the event and proposes new ways of exploring the works through a carefully designed virtual tour, interviews and dedicated materials. Early access for guests and professionals will start on November 10 through previous accreditation. VIDEOCLOOP, the streaming platform and archive hosting films from previous editions of Loop Fair and Loop Festival, will soon launch a new selection of films from this year's program.
Loop’s Jury, composed by Julian Ross (Eye Film Institute, Amsterdam), Elvira Dyangani Ose (Macba, Barcelona), Benjamin Weil (Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon), Dirk Snauwaert (Wiels, Brussels), Andrea Lissoni (Haus der Kunst, Munich) and Daniela Zyman (TBA-21, Vienna and Venice), will award an Honorable Mention and two prizes: the Loop Fair Award, which guarantees a gallery a return to the next edition, and the Loop Fair Acquisition Award, which selects a winning film to enter Loop Barcelona's collection, deposited at MACBA.
This year’s Loop Symposium (November 19–20) is titled “Trusting, Caring, Collaborating: Practices for Artists’ Cinema”. Curated by Filipa Ramos, it brings together a selection of experts to reflect on artists’ cinema today and imagine how institutions, artists and collectors can better collaborate and support one another.
November 19: Ons and Offs: Exhibitions, Biennials and Festivals (Moderated by Filipa Ramos, with Raphael Fonseca, Laura Huertas Millán, Sunjung Kim, Andrea Lissoni).
November 20: Virtual Trust: On digital circulation, authorship and ownership (Moderated by Sarah Johanna Theurer, with Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Barbara Cueto, Alistair Hudson, Kay Watson).
November 20: Collecting as a Form of Caring: On the importance of collecting and supporting artists’ cinema (Moderated by Gabriela Galcerán, with Manuel Segade, Beatrice Bulgari, Sandra Terdjman, Daniela Zyman).
November 20: Loop Commoning Network, which gathers professionals working at the intersection of art and cinema—museum directors, curators, gallerists, producers, artists, journalists and other collaborators—to foster a network of support, advice and co-production around artists’ moving image practices.
The 23rd edition of Loop Festival (November 11–22), under the artistic direction of Filipa Ramos, is entitled Miratges Mirages. Mirages can be seen but not touched, they radiate and vibrate but they have no matter, they can be individual and collective. Miratges Miratges celebrates our capacity to desire, create and project images. Exploring the relationship between cinema, imagination and perception, between bodies, landscapes and art, Miratges Mirages hosts more than 20 screenings, exhibitions, performances, and talks, presented in collaboration with the city’s artistic and cultural institutions. Engaging, mesmerising, diverse, and accessible, the artworks presented attest to artists’ cinema’s unique capacity to represent and dialogue with the present times, in their complexity and fascination.
Highlights include the exhibition of two early films by Joan Jonas at the Museu Picasso, drawing a line between the legacy of the two germinal artists; the duo exhibition of Ana Vaz & Guilherme Vaz, curated by einaidea at Museu de la Música, articulating the artist Ana Vaz’s relationship to the outstanding musical legacy of her father across common interests in anticolonial and environmental stances; the exhibition of Karrabing Film Collective’s recent film Night Fishing with the Ancestors at Centre Excursionista de Catalunya, reflecting on the past and future ramifications of Western settler-colonialism; the installation of Elyla’s video performance Torita-encuetada, an anticolonial ceremony through a fire ritual, at Fundació Enric Miralles; and the exhibition of Colectivo Los Ingrávidos’s film Chinampas / The Floating Gardens at the greenhouse (Hivernacle) of the Parque de la Ciutadella, as well the screening of Teocali, accompanied by a live performance by musician João Pais Filipe at Casa Montjuïc and held in collaboration with Batalha Film Centre, Porto. Loop Barcelona’s 23rd edition features a visual campaign by graphic designers Ana Habash and Alex Viladrich, with a musical contribution by producer and sound designer Sunny Graves.
