Registration is now open for the 2025 AICAD Symposium—“Engaging Values”, Hosted by Pratt Institute, November 12–14, 2025.
The AICAD Symposium is an annual gathering dedicated to advancing teaching and learning in art and design. Pratt Institute will host the 2025 Symposium, bringing together educators, researchers, students, and thought leaders from the fields of art and design and across the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD) community.
The 2025 symposium considers the role of values in art and design education and practice, where we can affirm, challenge, contest, clarify, and/or reconstruct our notions of values:
What can art and design contribute to our world today? How can we engage students, collaborators, and the public through our work? How can art and design facilitate conversation and creative approaches to challenging perspectives, differences, or complex problems? What skills do we need to foster understanding, collaboration, and change across these environments? How can reflection on values help guide our use of new technologies and create a better, more sustainable world
Our 2025 keynote speaker: Molly Crabapple
Molly Crabapple is an artist and writer whose inspirations include Toulouse Lautrec, Diego Rivera and Goya’s ‘The Disasters of War.’ She is the co-author of Brothers of the Gun, an illustrated collaboration with Syrian war journalist Marwan Hisham, which was a NY Times Notable Book and long-listed for the 2018 National Book Award. Her memoir, Drawing Blood, received global praise and attention. Her animated films have won two Emmys and an Edward R. Murrow Award.
Crabapple’s reportage has been published in the New York Times, New York Review of Books, The Paris Review, Vanity Fair, The Guardian, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone. She was the 2019 artist-in-residence at NYU’s Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies in 2019, a New America fellow in 2020, and the winner of the Bernhardt Labor Journalism Award in 2022. In 2023, she was a fellow at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library, working on a history of the Jewish Labor Bund.
