The School of Art at the University of Houston, an R1 public university, invites applications for four full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to begin Fall 2026 in the following area programs: Graphic Design, Painting, Photo/Video, and Sculpture. The UH School of Art offers BA and BFA degrees as well as Houston’s only fully funded, three-year MFA program with concentrations in Painting, Sculpture, Photo/Video, Graphic Design, and Interdisciplinary Practices & Emerging Forms. The NASAD-accredited School also offers MA degrees in Art History and Arts Leadership. Our MFA program is housed in state-of-the-art facilities at Elgin Street Studios, featuring private studios, wood and metal shops, a digital lab, and dedicated exhibition spaces. Faculty and students alike enjoy access to the vast resources of an R1 urban research institution, including robust support for research and creative practice projects.
The School of Art connects faculty and students with world-class cultural institutions, alternative art spaces, and galleries in the nation’s fourth largest and most diverse city, turning Houston into an extended campus filled with opportunities for growth and collaboration. Our position in the dynamic Gulf Coast region offers a unique relationship to the Southern US as well as the greater Southern Hemisphere. Students work closely with faculty mentors, whose expertise spans a broad range of practices and methodologies, while engaging with visiting artists, designers, curators, and critics who contribute critical perspectives from local, national, and international art communities. Our faculty are widely respected practitioners who cultivate the ability to challenge conventions, innovate new ways of seeing the world, and amplify diverse voices and forms of expression.
