Platform launch: when art and illness speak the same language

Proyect.IN—when art and illness speak the same language. On Wednesday October 22, 2025, at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid a new artistic platform is emerging from silence. 

Proyect.IN was born from the conviction that art is not a world apart from cancer, but one of its most powerful mirrors. Proyect.IN is a non-profit platform that connects art and cancer to reshape the perception of the disease.

Created by artists Evelyn Joyce (@nadinefundacion) and Marina Vargas (@marina_vargas_lavargastudio), both cancer patients, the initiative opens an unprecedented space where creation and illness coexist without fear or stigma. For the first time, artists who are living through cancer are given the opportunity to continue creating, to stay visible, and to transform vulnerability into expression.

Proyect.IN is not a project about pain—it is about presence, connection, and creative resistance. Through installations, performances, archives, and encounters, it proposes a more human and hopeful way of looking at the disease, replacing silence with dialogue and isolation with shared experience.

The platform will offer two annual grants—one for artistic production and another for research and archival work—encouraging artists and researchers to explore the intersections between art, body, and illness. Each grant is a gesture of continuity, an invitation to reimagine the cancer experience as part of the creative process rather than a rupture from it.

Beyond its residency and grant programs, Proyect.IN will unfold as a living archive—a space for documentation, memory, and artistic experimentation that brings together visual, performing, and literary practices. It will host exhibitions, talks, and workshops that explore how art can transform our emotional understanding of health, vulnerability, and resilience.

As its founders describe it, “Proyect.IN is not about survival, but about creation as a way of staying alive.”
