Open faculty positions

Carnegie Mellon Architecture (CM–A) is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Architectural Design. Building on its legacy in building performance, urbanism and computation, the school addresses three imminent challenges facing society. These challenges serve as catalysts for rethinking integrative design and professional practice, driving a transformation of the discipline. We seek candidates whose research and teaching critically mobilize architectural design and construction methods in response to material, environmental and economic issues—emphasizing innovative approaches that address the complex demands of a changing world. Carnegie Mellon Architecture is also seeking candidates for a teaching-track professor at the rank of Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor in Integrated Environmental Systems for Building Performance & Design. This position will support key areas of the CM–A curriculum relative to: the integration of active and passive building systems in design; building performance modeling; regenerative approaches to environmental systems engineering; evidence-based approaches to regenerative and high-performance design; context-specific responsiveness; and performance measurement, evaluation and rating systems. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in next-generation mechanical, energy, and electrical systems with holistic architectural thinking. They should be adept at using both industry standards and innovative approaches to environmental performance simulation to inform design decisions. Carnegie Mellon Architecture also invites applications for the 2026–28 Joseph F. Thomas Visiting Professorship. This two-year professorship supports early- to mid-career practitioners, scholars and studio educators with focused research and/or creative work interested in teaching. The professorship recipient will have an annual teaching load of two design studios and a seminar.
