The Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment is seeking to fill multiple tenure-track, professor of practice, and fellow positions across two of its many dynamic academic programs— Architecture and Design.
The school seeks to expand its faculty not only as it develops new programs and courses, but also as student enrollment has more than doubled in seven years.
"The increase in enrollment and retention also contributes to the school’s ability to keep adding new extraordinary faculty with impactful lines of research and a continuous flow of ideas," said Iñaki Alday, Dean at Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment.
Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment is recognized for robust initiatives in community-engaged design (The Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design), design-build (URBANbuild), interdisciplinary research studios, and research initiatives supported by the Center on Climate Change and Urbanism. Over the past several years, the school has experienced significant growth across all its programs, and in spring 2025, the school returned to its newly renovated home, Richardson Memorial Hall, complete with new studios, fabrication shops, classrooms, exhibition space, and offices. Located in New Orleans, Tulane University is a tier-one research university in the United States and a member of the selected group of top research universities integrated in the Association of American Universities (AAU). Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment is an innovator at multiple scales, from materials to buildings to neighborhoods and from urban landscapes to regional planning.
All open faculty positions start as early as summer 2026. While most searches will review applications starting next month, all will remain open until filled. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of when application reviews are initiated.
Assistant/Associate Professor in Architecture (Tenure-Track/Tenured) / Professor of Practice in Architecture
The school is seeking candidates to fill multiple positions for both Assistant/Associate Professor in Architecture (Tenure-Track/Tenured) and Professor of Practice in Architecture. Successful candidates will support our educational mission and teach undergraduate and graduate design studios, lectures, and seminar courses related to their area of expertise. We're particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching architectural design studios and in research and creative practice in areas including computational design, energy modeling and decarbonization, materials and fabrication, or building tectonics and structural design.
The search committee will commence its initial screening of both the Assistant/Associate Professor in Architecture applications and the Professor of Practice in Architecture applications on December 15, 2025 and conclude their initial review on January 5, 2026. However, applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.
Professor of Practice in Design
The school is looking for a versatile designer who can teach hands-on industrial design coursework and contribute broadly across our undergraduate curriculum. Our Bachelor of Arts in Design program emphasizes both digital and analog fabrication, creative problem-solving, and synergies between traditional design disciplines.
The search committee will commence its review of Professor of Practice in Design applications on December 1, 2025. Applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.
Architecture Fellow
This two-year visiting assistant professor position is designed to mentor emerging academics whose presence will advance academic excellence and help foster a welcoming community through varied perspectives, experiences, and approaches to architectural education and research. The successful candidate will support our educational mission by teaching architecture studios and courses aligned with their expertise, while pursuing an independent research trajectory.
The search committee will commence its review of applications January 12, 2026.
