Established in 1958, the College of Chinese Medicine was officially elevated to China Medical University (CMU) in 2003. In 2025, CMU proudly celebrated its achievement of being ranked No. 285 in the world according to the Best Global Universities Rankings by US News & World Report. This milestone positioned CMU as the second university in Taiwan overall, and the first among private universities in the country. To further enhance its global visibility and academic excellence, CMU launched a land acquisition plan for a new campus in 2018.
Serving as the new home of CMU, the Shuinan Campus is strategically located adjacent to the Shuinan Trade and Economic Park, a major urban regeneration project led by the Taichung City Government. The campus features a diverse range of facilities, including the Excellence Building for academic use, the Innovation & Research Building, the Biomedical R&D Center, and one of only three Proton Therapy Centers in Taiwan. Each building on the campus was designed by renowned architects in Taiwan, reinforcing CMU’s commitment to integrating education, research, healthcare, and innovation.
The Shuinan Campus also serves as a hub for architectural and cultural innovation, showcasing projects by prominent architects from Taiwan and abroad. Among its most significant landmarks is the CMU MoFA (link), the only project in East Asia designed by Frank Gehry, laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Ahead of the museum’s official inauguration, and in alignment with CMU’s mission to advance contemporary art, support original and visionary practices, and embody “University/Education, Hospital/Health, Art/Sustainability” which are the three core values of the China Medical University–Asia University System, the “2026 International Sculpture Award of the China Medical University–Asia University System” (hereinafter referred to as “the Award”) has been launched.
The Award is not only dedicated to enriching CMU’s collection but also to introducing outstanding new works to the Shuinan Campus’s outdoor public spaces. Alongside classical masterpieces by world-renowned artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle, Masatoshi Izumi, and Yang Ying-feng, these additions will further strengthen the connection between art, the environment, and everyday life, creating a dynamic and inspiring cultural landscape for the university community and beyond.

Entry specifications
Creative Theme: Responds to the core of the China Medical University—Asia University System Museums: University/Education, Hospital/Health, Art/Sustainability. Format: 3-dimensional or spatial installation artwork. Medium: Weather-resistant materials, fit for permanent outdoor display. Dimensions: 3D or spatial assemblage artwork, with at least one of the dimensions in length, width, or height measuring 300cm in the final state for display.
Eligibility
Individual artists or art groups from Taiwan or abroad are eligible. The entries can be original or existing pieces, created independently under the name of the individual or group. A maximum of two entries per individual/group is allowed for submission.
Jury composition
The judging is a two-stage process for the Award. The jury for the preliminary review consists of six domestic scholars and experts, and that for the final review is comprised of five local and international scholars and experts.
Awards & prizes
The Award consists of one Gold Award, one Silver Award, and one Bronze Award, along with nine Honorable Mentions. The twelve finalists selected in the preliminary review for the final review automatically agree to permanent collection of their works by China Medical University. The final allocation of awards shall be determined by the results of the final review.
